Vanderbilt Pitching Coach Joins C2C at Roger Dean Complex
2007-01-04
NCAA 2004 Pitching Coach of the year, Derek Johnson, of Vanderbilt University made a surprise appearance at the Coast to Coast Baseball winter showcase and camp held December 27 - 31, 2006 at the Roger Dean Complex in Jupiter, FL. When a friend was unable to participate in the camp because of medical reasons, Coach Johnson volunteered to come down and spend the week working with the high school pitchers in attendance.

"Its not often you can get someone with Derek's background to give up his holiday to work with high school kids," said Coast to Coast President Kevin Ritter. "He was great....one night he sat up talking pitching with kids in the lobby of the hotel long after practice was over."

In addition to working with pitchers on the field, Johnson spoke to the entire group of players and parents on throwing mechanics.

The camp was attended by 52 players representing 12 different states around the country.
