Each year it seems the US Government manages to create more confusion regarding passport requirements for Puerto Rico. While the State Department has confirmed no passport will be needed through the end of 2008, there are indications this may change in January of 2009. Once we have definitive information about 2009, we will post it here.

If you would like to check passport requirements on your own, you may visit these sites for the latest information:

1) Department of Homeland Security Website:

Click on Traveling To and from US Territories

2) US Department of State Website:

Scroll half way down the page to find:

Note: The passport requirement does NOT apply to U.S. citizens traveling to or returning directly from a U.S. territory.” If you click on US territory, Puerto Rico is listed.

3) U.S. National Passport Information Center: (877) 4USA-PPT

We encourage you to check out these three sources and talk with your own travel provider to make sure they are not requiring a passport for travel. With that said, it is not a bad idea to have a passport if you are thinking of traveling internationally in the future.
